Lovely Listing

What it it about this house — found by Kate — that’s so disturbing? The doll, the color, the pattern, the weird angles, the way that it looks like a dollhouse from 1973? I do not know.

What is up with all the strange houses from “Down Under?”

No wonder Australia was originally set up as a penile colony.

  2. Susan says:

I looked at the plans – I wonder who thought it would be a good idea to put the toilet in one room and the sink and shower in another.

  3. T says:

I’m laughing so hard at Joe’s comment I completely forgot what I was going to say!

The room does look like a scene out of a scary movie… like the doll’s about to come alive and the kids are all hiding from their off the rocker crazed mother.

  4. Deb Clague says:

LMAO at Joe’s comment…Freudian slip, eh?

That doll has the perfect expression for this room.

Susan: The toilet separate from the sink/shower is truly an amazing feat. I think it is a remarkable idea, especially for a vacation house. I’m sure my gf would love the ability to sit in front of the mirror for 3 hours in the morning without having to interfere with my bowel movements.

  6. joe pettis says:

By the way, I know you think I might have misspelled penal, while trying to refer to Australia’s history as a huge prison camp…

But indeed I meant penile colony, referring to the little known fact that Australia was really set up as a recluse for Gay Politicians to release their inner demons.

  7. Kim says:

I hope joe put it that way intentionally…or do I? Oh, well. It was funny either way.

“Sweet Dreams are made of these….”

    Not really.

I find it quite disturbingly neat and tidy. My son’s girlfriend thrives in places that are abnormally neat. OCD.

  9. T says:

LOL that’s funny. what’s up with the ceiling though?

  10. Brandie says:

I’m bothered that the kitchen doesn’t have a sink. (But does have two TVs.)

  11. Linnee says:

This is the first time I’ve laughed more at a comment than at the picture!

  12. MuseSwings says:

This must be the room that once had The Yellow Wallpaper (by Charlotte Gilman) Creepy that after she tore off all the wallpaper they repainted it yellow anyway.

  13. Emily says:

I think it’s the separate beds that makes this truly unsettling. In a room this horrifying, you need to be able to cling to another for comfort, which isn’t possible in a lonely single bed.

  14. Ally says:

I find the single toothbrush in the bathroom oddly poignant.

I just can’t decide whether it belongs to the doll or its owner?

  15. Charlene says:

Are all the rooms strangely shaped, or does the realtor not know how to use a wide-angle lens?

  16. JOUK says:

Brandie – I thought this too about the sink but then I realised that it’s tucked right in the far left of the picture and is shown, on the floorplan, as being just inside the door. What’s that about!?! There’s a great spot just under the window so at least there’s a view of something more interesting than a wall when you are washing your pots!

And as for the toilet / shower separate – this is pretty popular in the UK for exactly the reason that Joe Pettis comments!

  17. Amanda says:

It’s the doll. Definitely the doll.

  18. Mike K says:

    I’M BLIND!!!! The brightness.

  19. Nicole says:

I just need to tell you that your blog makes me laugh -out loud- every time I look at it, even on the crappiest of days. For that I am eternally grateful to you. Keep up the good work!

  20. Alex says:

The seperate toilet thing is really quite common in Australia in older houses Especially if the house was originally built with an outside toilet.

  21. Anon says:

I think someone really liked the movie “The Shining”. I wonder where the other twin is?

  22. The One Guy says:

Oh, I know what’s disturbing! One of the footboards is off color!

  23. libis says:

This room would be pretty if you took everything out of it, and completely re-painted.
