Yeah, okay, it’s just a dirty carpet. Whatever. We’ve seen much, much, worse. But as mars78 pointed out — it’s a freaking SIXTEEN MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE. I can rent a steam cleaner from the grocery store up the street for twenty bucks, and my kids would pay me to let them use it (especially because we don’t have any carpets and it would be an extra exciting experience using it on the wood floors).
Is the profit margin really that teeny on real estate that they can’t afford the expense? If so, they should consider getting into a more profitable business. Like blogging. That’s where the smart money is these days. Uh-huh.

the bedside table is looking kind of rescued from a burned down building too. perhaps that is why there is soot all over the floor?
Wait, in a 16000 square foot house, the most impressive thing to take a photo of was the bedroom where the carpet needs cleaning? If the photographer turns around, is there a stack of twin-size mattresses?
I'm amazed by this listing only having 3 pictures. I've seen listings for 2 bedroom cottages with over a dozen!

They're too busy having orgies in the gymnasium with rich and powerful people in the style of "Eyes Wide Shut" to bother with cleaning the silly carpets.
That bedside table has seen better days. Based on the bedroom photo alone I sort of expect the whole house to smell like cat pee.
(I went and looked and the entire listing and it looks nice – Hello, indoor gymnasium! The bedroom still looks gross though.)
Not pictured: little dog with a slight worm problem.
Also it was built in 2006! Seems like a lot of grime for only a few years. Maybe they had hunting dogs who slept there, fresh from the fox hunt.

Now see; from the overall style of the room, I imagine that that spot is wear the man of the house (dressed still in muddy boots from a day of fox hunting) comes in and rogers a wench or two before joining his wife in another wing of the house. Yarrr. And stuff.
Holy crap, clean the freaking carpet! I'm talking to the darned real estate agent, what can they be thinking? It's a sixteen million dollar house, think of the commission. Pay for it your damned selves if you need to!
Also, it says built or renovated (it doesn't specify) in 2007. Really? Because that looks like more than two years worth of dirt at the end of that bed.
I know it is expected that anyone with enough money to buy the joint will massively redecorate anyway. Still, you don't need to let it look neglected.
My perplexity (on top of all those previously mentioned): how does 8 full baths and 4 half baths add up to 8.5 total baths?

When I sold my three-bedroom, one-bathroom, dirt-basement house (which was being sold for the LOT), the realtor not only had 15 photos online but two panoramas and the real property report.
What were they thinking?
Were I staging, I'd put a lot more money into furniture (and carpet–gag!), but I'd definitely still bargain shop, especially if I had mirrored-nightstand taste.

Possibly no one else is going to get this reference but I believe this to be the much-longed-for bed of Willy, hero of 80s platform game 'Jet Set Willy'. Other rooms not photographed include The Banyan Tree, the Priest's Hole and the Cold Store.
Anyone else see the photoshopping done?? In the first pic of the front of the house the shadows from the trees are so worng! And the inside theres more! Go to the listing that dissimilitude put and you can see it.
Hmm…I'm not convinced that it is dirty. Looks like it may be an exceptionally glossy or synthetic carpet with high pile, and what we're seeing is weird reflections from the flash once the angle of incidence is low enough. Seems to be too many patters within the area in question for it to be simply dirt.
I agree, I’m guessing that this is a plush or silk carpet and the light is playing tricks on the camera. If you look closely at the far side of the bed, you can see two paths that merge, which are probably the regular paths that they walk. Past that along the far wall you get the “dirty carpet” again. I think the carpet reflects oddly the farther it gets from the camera, except for the piling that has been crushed down from regular walking.
Uck. This house gives me the creeps. It looks like a funeral home.
$16 million and you get wall-to-wall carpeting just like in a cheap condo.
I suspect that the rug is actually an area rug and it looks to be SILK – which when walked on can have an appearance of being darker in more worn areas. I really don't think it is dirty. My soft blue silk rug in my living room does the same thing.
I am guessing that someone figured they better make up for the dirty carpet…the price is now down to $15 Million!
