  1. Cathy Pavlovich says:

All it needs is a giant console TV, a couple of pole lamps and some wall art featuring kids with big eyes. Then you'd be all set.

  2. Kelly says:

Looks like they used the same carpet outside. :)

  3. Galadriel says:

How did the kitchen and the roomwith the hardwood floor get away without carpet?

  4. Anonymous says:

It's too much work to move the tub into the corner. Just leave it there an we will build around it. :-)

  5. janet says:

Ugh. They could've at least picked a less disgusting color than anemic diarrhea… :c

  6. Nancy Hunt-Bartek says:

And to think I went to all that work to get rid of all the carpeting in my house!
    fondly, Nancy

  7. FonHom says:

Sure it's carpet? Looks like a new moss/mold cultivar. Blecch! Splrnfh!

  8. Anonymous says:

    Oh dear!

  9. Land of shimp says:

It seems like they at least pulled up the carpet in the living room, and went out of their way to mention that there are wood floors underneath all that carpet.

There's also probably a mold colony poised to invade the earth. Carpet, in a bathroom, in Washington state. Aaaiiiiieeeee!

A bad idea second only to having an atrium in a submarine.

  10. Sabra says:

I've always heard tales of carpeted bathrooms, but this is the first time I've ever actually seen photographic evidence!

  11. Tony Paul says:

wow I *Love* the beautiful hand crafted turned-oakwood pole for pole dancing on the bathub.

  12. gwhizzy says:

The ad says, "There's a fireplace in the living room" but what the heck is that orange thing with the rock pit. I also enjoy the reference that refinishing the hardwood is all this home would need to make it perfect. Oh vay! I can smell the mold from here.

  13. Diane J. says:

I second FonHom. I was thinking the same thing, it looks like moss has taken over.

  14. Stuart says:

Due to a colloquial misunderstanding, Ian's request to the builder for a "tub made for shagging" resulted in this.

  15. Decadent Housewife says:

Looks like a church I once belonged to – carpet on the walls and clear up the baptistry.
They said it had to do with sound – absorbing sound.
    They had other problems too.

  16. Katharine says:

That's not mold, that's Grade A muppet skin they carpeted that bathroom with.

  17. jackie31337 says:

Land of shimp said Carpet, in a bathroom, in Washington state. Aaaiiiiieeeee!

I've also gathered from watching home improvement shows on BBC that carpeted bathrooms are/were common in the UK. The decorators/home improvers almost always recommend ripping it out and laying a floor covering more suitable for a wet space.

I'm not a fan of wall-to-wall carpet in any room, but if there's one room that should absolutely never have carpet, it's the bathroom.

  18. Mr Shrubber says:

What Jackie said. Carpeting bathrooms used to be a national pastime in the UK, and many 'old-fashioned' hotels/B&Bs still have them. The result is almost always minging. The guest photos on Tripadvisor.co.uk are a treasure trove if you're into this kind of thing.

  19. Glory von Hathor says:

Jackie – My parents have carpet in one of the bathrooms in their house, and have never had a damp or mould problem. That carpet is cleaner than my whole house thanks to my mother's meticulous (borderline clinical) hoovering habits, and the enforced use of giant bathmats. Plus no boys did peeing in that bathroom. Obviously it's not dysentry green shagpile like in the photo. I can smell wet dog just looking at that photo.

In the UK we now have a vogue for randomly putting a claw foot tub in the bedroom, but that's a step too far for my liking.

My friend recently inherited a house with just such a problem. Only it was bright orange shag carpeting. Needless to say, the problem has been rectified. It's was truly a sight to behold.

  21. Lauren says:

Wow and that wooden accent thing is just the icing on the cake. One lonely, out of place turned-wood post.

I'm glad to hear they haven't carpeted the kitchen, there is really nothing ickier than food and hard-to-clean, dirt-eating surface.

  22. Ash says:

I've got to say, that is the UGLIEST carpeting I have ever seen!

  23. Alex says:

I've seen a lot of nasty things on this blog, but for some reason, a shag-carpet bathroom repulses me more than usual.

  24. Jerod Poore says:

The lemon of a house I own has a carpeted bathroom, kitchen and utility/laundry room.

Along with a popcorn ceiling, wood paneling, recessed lights and a built-in liquor cabinet.

I swear Bob Crane is buried somewhere on the property.

  25. Darkane says:

Wow, the color is Interesting to say the least other wise i don't think i would mind, at least i wouldn't be able to slip and fall.

  26. Julia M says:

Just wanted to burst in and say that its quite normal to have carpeted bathrooms in the UK. Im still trying to think of a reason this is a good idea…. nothing yet.

  27. Patricia Linehan says:

When I was a kid, my aunt & uncle's house looked a lot like this one. Believe it or not, that bathroom was considered very elegant and fancy!

  28. Anonymous says:

    a seriously cool firelplace.

  29. Anonymous says:

Actually, if you look, it appears that a portion of the front lawn has been peeled away – I think that is actually grass in the bathroom – very environmentally friendly!

  30. HellHathNoFury says:

I am now ashamed to live in Port Orchard, Washington.

  31. Lorry says:

None of you lot were alive in 70′s Britain, were you. Shame on you! This is nothing compared to some of them I have seen.

No self-respecting bath panel was ever complete without carpeting all over it.

  32. Bunny says:

Damn you! I’m looking at this site at work, and your caption for this has me laughing so hard that people OUTSIDE MY LITTLE BUILDING can hear me.

And I just scrolled up to emphasize which part had me laughing so much (“LET ME CARPET YOU! CAAAARPPEEET!”), and now I’m nearly choking to death to stop the laughter.

Damn you! This site’s gonna get me fired. ::stalks off::
