Lifetips 101

I used to be one of those people who could never find her keys, but now I have a system. When I walk through the door I put my wallet and phone on the table, my keys in the big bowl, and right by the door I…

this is a huge house, there is no reason for this.

It could be good for those number twos, open the door for instant airing out!

Imagine the fun surprise when you forget to lock the door and get an unexpected visitor …

To be fair, my in-laws have a bathroom with an exterior and interior door just like this. The exterior door is a shortcut for anyone coming in from the pool so they don't trash the rest of the house.

I'm just not real sure about the windows right next to the headspace.

  5. Alissa says:

I agree with Juliana on this. Looks like this isn't the main entrance just a special bathroom only exterior door, which I guess you can do in a house of this size. Still the window right there is a strange choice.

All I need is an extra 1.2 million and I can buy this and some curtains.

That is so odd.. I just can't figure that one out. I guess maybe for those times where you go out to eat and get sick and have to make the quick dash into your home. Guess it would be good for that :)

    Ah.

I also follow a home decor/lifestyle blog, so I just clicked on the preview, and there was a three second lag before I realised exactly where I was.

I've seen these a lot in houses that have pools. In certain parts of the country they're actually pretty common. The bathroom is as big as it is to give you room to towel off and maybe even change. There's very likely an outdoor shower right outside that door to rinse off the chlorine.

I can see the practicality of the accessibility to the bathroom from the outside but why does the commode have to be right by the door and a window?

It's a big enough room that it could situated elsewhere.

This isn't as strange as the house with the bathroom in what was clearly the back entrance. I can see practical reasons for it, particularly if they ever add a pool. Like everyone else the window baffles me, though.

Also, you have all that money. All that land, all that piece and quiet but lack the imagination to paint a room anything other than cream or beige? Forget about the walls, all the furnishings are in various hues of brown. So is the artwork.

No one has ever lived in that house, have they? Built in 2008. Decorated to the specifications of the Blandersons.

  12. Land of shimp says:

Peace. I meant "Peace and quiet". Argh.

  13. Faith says:

I don't particularly like the toilet adjacent to the door, but an exterior door into the bathroom is brilliant. I had one in a previous house, and it was so great to come home from the beach & only mess up the bathroom.

  14. Simon says:

It's for rinsing your shoes when you enter the house. Don't want to get dirt all over the nice clean floor, eh?

  15. Lauren says:

The way the sink is facing the toilet, it looks like it was built for two people.

One sitting, and one giving a speech to the person who is sitting. "Practice your public speaking, never again will you take the audience too seriously."

I guess dropping one off at the door is part of the "wine country life-style."

Rooms like this aren't rare at all for a house with a pool… but… why did they build it like this? No shower, no convenient place to change, the window doesn't appear to be frosted or covered with blinds, why is the john next to the door…? Common idea, lousy execution.

  18. marn says:

just bought our 60-year-old house last year. the original bath (upstairs, at the back of the house) has the toilet situated right in front of the very low (knee-wall) window, so one must have the blinds closed any time the facilities are in use. doesn't bother me!
