Lovely Listing

Fixer, fixer, fixer!

y-wing

Sure, this house Heather found looks cool at first glance. But do you know how much it’ll cost to get a contractor to repair the laser damage from the Y-wing? And I thought getting popcorn ceilings removed was going to be bad…

(Thanks to burhanistan for stopping me from really embarrassing myself with a spacecraft misidentification. X-wing? What was I smoking?)

Sadly, I knew this was a Y-wing, and also think this may be the coolest bedroom on earth. I am a complete nerd. Why would anyone ever move out of this house?

  2. ptooie says:

Wow. just, wow. That is about the coolest thing ever.
I'm having a hard time picturing the future spa area in a completed state. What goes there to make it a spa?

  3. Anonymous says:

I think the homeowner works as movie-set creator.
    Worked.
Now he sells pizzas in his camper van.

  4. saffry says:

This home is lovely, I'd love to take it. Except I'd never get my son out of his bedroom.

  5. Stuart says:

I have to say that that's the impressivest (it's a word) listing site deally thing I've ever seen. I mean, even sans the Y-Wing bedroom.

I'd like to say something funny, but it's Tuesday and that listing was just too cool.

  6. Katt says:

Anyone else notice the painting in the dining room. Birds do, bees do it… and I guess lions too.

  7. StefRobrts says:

My husband would take that in a second – oh, did I mention we own a star wars toy store ;) Yeah, that is right up our alley!

  8. ~~Silk says:

I can't believe the price! That's the same that the county has appraised my house – a NY state rural 1750 sq ft rectangular ranch – for on the tax rolls, not that I'd get that much for it. This house won't be listed long.

My only consolation is that the upkeep would break me.

  9. Karin says:

that's a huge house and the price is very low for CA… I wonder what's wrong with it…

  10. Anonymous says:

Sara, I know these appear to be real houses, but don't you think it's more likely there is a US-wide conspiracy to post the most ludicruously fake photos and see if anyone notices?

  11. mudslicker says:

OMG! They've cloned R2D2 and now the two Kleobis and Biton twins have been put into servitude to hold up this kids loft bed!

    It's…just…not right….

I feel very sorry for this kids future wife (OK, I'm being sexist and assuming the child is male).

"You want me to sleep WHERE honey?"

  12. Chad says:

    Coolest. Bedroom. Ever.

  13. Meredith says:

Why is this house so cheap? I mean, cheap for California.

I am a bit disapointed that the other rooms in the house are totally "normal".

  14. Anonymous says:

    mudslicker – nice Herodotus (I, 31) reference!

You know, Ralph Fienes and I are like *this* with the Herodotus references!

It helps that I got my degree in Classical Studies as well…*chuckle*..I KNEW that degree would come in handy some day.

  16. dissimilitude says:

I thought it seemed cheap for CA myself….most of the house seems very nice (if a little on the boring side) but that bedroom is amazing! It also really seems like a lot of thought went into the building of the house (things like having outlets in the eaves for Christmas lights — that's a cool idea!)

  17. Deus Mechanicus says:

Nerd. Paradise. ~grabbyhands~ do want. do very much want.

  18. Anonymous says:

Their listing specifies that they have an entry gait, but they fail to tell us how fast it is.

Hey! Is that a tribble hiding in the corner of the bathroom?

  20. BikerPuppy says:

I paid more than this for my 2 bedroom 1500 sq foot home with NO Y-WING BEDROOM!! I was so ripped off. BTW, I'm glad to see I'm not the only geek here. :)

  21. Architect Critic says:

Wow, that's a beautiful house. Well staged, great photos, no messes anywhere. I would buy it.

The problem with it is it's near Fresno, which has some of the worst air quality outside of the LA basin. The area is also one of the hardest hit by the housing crisis, topped only by where I live 60 miles North. That is just how much prices have crashed here. A couple years ago it would have gone close to 1 million.

I bought a year ago and paid just half of what it had been worth the year before.

  22. Jennifer Leigh says:

I can't understand how they are selling that house for only $384,500. Is it the location? There has to be some horrible catch… Do you know what a house like that would go for in MA?! Crazy!

  23. bikergeek says:

For those of you who are marveling at the price, look at a map. Visalia is out in TMOFN, about halfway between Bakersfield and Fresno. Zillow puts its value at $256,500. I don't know how long the commute would be to any sort of job that would let you pay the mortgage on a $384,000 house but I bet it'd be at least an hour each way. No thanks.

  24. Amy B. says:

My son wants that room. The rest of the house is gorgeous. Now I just need to get my husband a job in California that pays enough to buy it. ;)

I vote this for coolest listing pic ever.

  25. caroline says:

bikergeek, I commute an hour each way to work and live in a house that is worth approximately as much as this one, but it's a tiny townhouse with a minuscule yard. Maybe I need to move to the other side of the country.

  26. Land of shimp says:

Yet another scifi nerd checking in here, and I also think it's cool.

I say this as a wordy person, well aware of that failing in myself, but they really need to edit that description down by a lot.

Say it with half, folks, trying saying it with half. It's an awfully nice house but the FSBO description went on so long, I almost didn't bother to look.

Having paid quite a bit more in south bay, ca, for a shoebox (with an ocean view, of course) I wanted to know where this mythical place was.
It is in central valley (basically, start at Paso Robles and move directly east to the middle of the state), in a small housing tract near what looks like cornfields?? according to the website that starts with z and ends like pillow, the houses around it are 160-250k.
Love the website, not sure it is worth 130k more, even with the Y wing that my husband would love…

  28. walkingwaters says:

Great bedroom–I think my husband would live there in a second.

What's with the turtles on the patio? Is there turtle action happening there? Maybe that's why the price is so low–lascivious reptilian action and without even any Twileks and their leku.

  29. Anonymous says:

For those of you wondering about the 'low' price… yes, it's the location. I've driven right by that area before. Blasted wasteland, all desert, no industry anywhere, stuck in the middle of desolation between Fresno and Bakersfield. If I remember correctly, from that location, the commute into the outskirts of the Bay area (your nearest large place of industry and source of decent-paying jobs) is around 3 hours. The house is amazing, the location… awful!

  30. Anonymous says:

I live in Visalia. I can assure you, it is not a wasteland. It is actually not a bad place to live. My first choice? No… (I grew up in So Cal.)

The Central Valley has been hit HARD by this recession. The unemployment rate is high (over 10%) and housing prices have dropped so far that many 3 bed/2 bath homes are under $200K. (I know because we have been wanting to sell for 3 years now. The timing has been off.) So, unfortunately, this is actually a high price for this area.

  31. Anonymous says:

    What a beautiful, beautiful house.
I can't even imagine what it would be like to spend one night there – let alone own it.
The backyard itself is a paradise.
    Love this house!
With OR without the Star Wars stuff, it's amazing.

  32. fposte says:

Huh. In one of the courtyard pictures, they've (badly) digitally drawn blossoms onto the morning glory vine. That's…odd.

  33. Nemowho says:

I could really use and "Entry Gait"

  34. Armaan says:

Absolutely gorgeous house with amazing landscaping, awesome choice in materials, and an excellent for sale website.

Horrible, horrible taste in light fixtures though. :-P

  35. _Jon says:

    I *hate* popcorn ceilings…

  36. Jojo says:

KICK-A$$!!!! OMG I’d buy that house just for that bedroom. And no, I WON’T be sharing with my boyfriend…even if our realtionship IS built on Star Wars… XD

  37. Ragnar says:

I think I saw something like that on one of those crazy home makeover shows…

  38. THE RESISTANCE says:

    DONT JUST STAND THERE!

FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT…FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT, FIX IT.

GOTTO GET BACK INTO D FIGHT!
