Lovely Listing

Have a Holly Jolly Listing

spelling

I stayed up far too late last night watching eevil watery life forms take over Mars (on TV! not in person!) and then my kids woke me up unbelievably early this morning and now my Anthropomorphisis is flaring up big time. Because some people might look at this listing and thing, “Wow! Wadda foyer!” or “Hey, isn’t that the most expensive residential listing in the US? Think I’ll buy it!” or even “My goodness, Brenda and Dylan sure brought in the big bucks for the Spellings,” my first thought is fear. Pure fear.

And then confusion.

Because I swear there’s an evil snowman staring at me, but I can’t quite place it. It’s like this:

spelling2

But not quite. Argh, who is it? It’s not Sam the Snowman:

samsnowman

And it’s not Bumble, either:

rudolph

Anyone? Tell me I’m not alone in this… so alone. So very, very alone.

Looks a bit like evil robot Santa on Futurama.

  2. Helen says:

That is one big scary ‘tash!

  3. ToeKiller_StumpMaker says:

My Name is Inigo Montoya! you mocked my house, prepare to die!

  4. bryan says:

Hmm. Kind of looks like the snowman in “Jack Frost”. You know, that horrific Michael Keaton movie where he dies and comes back to life as a snowman? A living snowman! How’s that for scary??

    • frontdesk aka doer of everything says:

AAAH! I had the exact same thought, but for some reason I couldn’t get Michael Keaton, I thought Jack Nicholson, lol. This listing is going to haunt my Christmas thoughts for the rest of the season!

  5. Madness says:

Ah! Despite my own anthropomorphisis, I could not see this until I saw the Photoshopped version and now … I can see nothing else!

  6. Niki says:

I’m with Madness. I saw a beautiful foyer until your drawing, and now that’s all I can see – a face. :-/

  7. Kara says:

I saw it — it’s the moustache. Er, I mean, stair rail.

  8. Yudo Nomi says:

Looks more like this evil mustached clown to me: http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/14/1483/H9XQ000Z/insane-clown-posse.jpg
(sorry, I don’t know how to embed web links)

  9. Minos says:

I didn’t see the giant snowman face until you pointed it out, but there does appear to be an elf doing a dance number in there. You can see him on his knees below the chandelier. He’s got his arms out wide and is wearing a pointy green hat.

  10. Heidi says:

Maybe it’s Bleak, from Donkey Kong Country 3. Check the pic at http://www.mariowiki.com/Bleak

  11. Kat says:

Wasn’t “The Waters of Mars” terrific? Loved it!

Anyhow, I did not see the sinister snow-creature until you pointed it out, but now that I’m looking at the top picture with that in mind, I keep seeing Doctor Egg-Man from Sonic the Hedgehog, or maybe Yosemite Sam…

  12. BoringCommenter says:

Mustaches, even scary ones, don’t grow above the nose.

  13. Dan says:

“I stayed up far too late last night watching eevil watery life forms take over Mars”

Ah, yes the Doctor went too far. But why the apparition of an Ood?
David Tennant’s last episode will be on Christmas, so sad to see him leave.

  14. kdub says:

I saw something stranger. When I looked at the photo, I saw the first rug, closest to the camera, as the floor. Then I saw the really shiny part of the floor as the vertical part of a BIG step, and the rug further away from the camera (with the table sitting on it) as the floor of the new level. And I thought, who the hell lives in this house, giants? I was really, really confused, and then I looked at it again and realized that that’s all floor, shiny or not.
But now that I’ve said that, can anyone else see this ‘optical illusion’?

    • mystic_eye_cda says:

Now that you’ve said it I see it, its the reflection making lines between the two carpets.

But now that I see that the golden glow on the lights under the stairs looks more like the eyes in a sad face.

So now, do you see what I see =))

    • Joy says:

I still see it that way. It looks to me like there’s a huge step — about 18 inches — from the doorway area to the stairway area. Not ADA compliant at all.

  15. quinn says:

kdub – same here… those refelctions are eerie, my first thought was “whoa, marble mosh pit in the foyer”… then I pictured it to be a pool… I’m wierd like that

  16. mystic_eye_cda says:

I go through that listing and think:

    1) Does it come furnished because I would need to spend another 10 million just in CHAIRS, then 5 million in end tables, 30 million in drapes, etc

    2) My kids would have a really, really fun time having foot/bike races around the fountain set in the large round paved area -way cooler than racing around the empty wading pool at the park!

    • Tim says:

Oooo, Chair really isn’t that expensive, and 10 million’s worth would just end up with lots of them doing that naughty thing Chairs do. Though if you have the money, and enjoy chairvoyeuring, then I guess it’s cool.

  17. Hollee says:

I’m channeling Wario on this one, especially with that very eyebrow-esque shadow over the left ey…er…window.

  18. Amy says:

My daughter (age 2 3/4) says the Photoshopped version is a choo choo train. Argument over.

    • Lily Allgood says:

      *gasp*

Like Charlie the Choo-Choo train in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series? Oh NOES!! Now I see Charlie.

      And I’m scared.

  19. I saw the funky mosh-pit-floor optical illusion, myself…and then Sara
‘shopped in that face and I can’t see it any other way…I’m so glad I live in Texas, where you see more snow on Grampa’s shoulders than you do on the ground…

  20. Digital Phoenix says:

I see the Stay Puft Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters for some reason!

    http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/stay_puft_bobblehead_L.jpg

  21. Blondie says:

I see the StayPuft Marshmallow Man.

  22. O.O says:

Wait…is this the Merovingian’s house from the second Matrix movie?

    • P''' says:

That’s exactly what I thought. Would make sense, as it is the house of a movie icon. But it isn’t.

But probably it did inspire the matrix movie set creators…

  23. GoremanX says:

I see the Marshmallow man from Ghostbusters, most notably when we just see his huge face at the rooftop and he gets angry from the Ghostbusters shooting beams at him.

  24. bryn says:

I’m not sure about the snowman of doom, but I think I’d have to come down the stairs with my eyes closed every time so that I didn’t worry about falling into the swimming pool they seem to have put in the hallway floor. Or perhaps just put a really big rug over the unnecessarily shiny floor.

  25. Jen says:

Your snowman reminds me of something that I’m sure I’ve seen before. While obsessively trolling the internet to find it, I entered “Angry Snowman” into google. Learned something new. Thanks Urban Dictionary. Thanks Lovely Listings.

  26. Rebecca says:

It is totally a Storm Trooper.

  27. Ladyofthemasque says:

    Snidley Whiplash.

    ‘Nuff said.

  28. The World is Yours, Tony Montana.

  29. Justawonderin says:

    Kdub,
I definitely can now see nothing but the recessed floor. Wackity!

  30. Catherine says:

First thought: The VonTrapp family home in the Sound of Music. So, how boring is that?

Second thought: Bwahahahahahahahaha, almost spit my coffee out. Awesome photoshopping!

  31. Steph says:

It reminds me of the staircase in the Poseidon movie, of course, the ship was upside down. The picture can be flipped upside down and obtain the same effect. :)

But I can see the moustache effect.

Yes the Inigo Montoya moustache :)

  32. JMixx says:

    AaaaaaAAAAAaaaaaaah!

Bad snowman is about to eat the dancing elf!!!

    mentally ill? me?

  33. jman4647 says:

That kind of looks like that house-ish castle from Princess Diaries, either 1 or 2

  34. skaryzgik says:

The first thing I thought of when I saw this picture is that it reminds me of the house Debbie bought with Fester’s money in the movie Addams Family Values.

  35. No wayz!! says:

OMGns, that totally looks likke the house they filmed “Beautiful Theives” In!! You know, AFI, crash love? I’m gonna be looking for an indoor pool with a half-naked dead lady in it!!

  36. OK I am a bit late but hey, what can I say, I think it may be “Parson Brown” after all, we have never truly seen him…or her
