I don’t think this is quite what people mean when they talk about “going green”…
Actually, there is a trend towards replacing your water-hungry lawn with artificial turf here in Southern California. There are a few houses in our neighborhood that have done so. It’s kind of expensive, and I don’t particularly like the way it looks (too perfect) but in a drought situation with severe watering restrictions it does make sense.
Hey, if it means I don’t have to mow, sign me up.
Yea, I’m in Australia and there are a couple of houses in our neighbourhood that have astro-turf front yards. Because we are in a drought, and lawn and garden watering is prohibited, it is very odd to see the bright green grass amid the sea of dead brown that is everyone else’s lawns.
I used to live in a rental house with astroturf carpeting in the bathroom. That stuff’s kinda unpleasant on the feet when it’s wet.
Isn’t anyone else bothered by the windows?
First thought that popped into my head:
“Oh my nose!”
There is a house near where my kids went to middle school (in NE Seattle) with a front yard that consists of black plastic with some rocks holding it down.
I noticed it when I first starting to take my oldest kid to the school, and I thought they were just killing the grass to do landscaping. That was over nine years ago. I still go by occasionally (it also happens to be near the library), and it is still covered in black plastic (I wonder if they change the plastic, since that stuff does deteriorate).
they’re hoping the extra heat generated by the sun on tat black plastic will decompose the bodies sooner…..
It… doesn’t look fake to me. It just looks like someone ordered sod by the roll, and it’s been rolled out very recently.
Hey now… my own yard is astro-turf…. it’s not so bad!
