Lovely Listing

Please advise.

I want to find more furrin listings, so I can be nosy internationally. Any suggestions for easy-to-navigate, easy-to-link-to, no-registration-required real estate websites from outside the USA? To give you an idea what I’m looking for: my current favorites are Redfin and Finn (but I will consider companies that don’t have “fin” in their names).

Thank you!

For all things Australian realestate.com.au and domain.com.au are always good for a laugh, particularly if you’re checking out the rental properties section…

  2. Martina says:

The most popular in Germany would be http://www.immobilienscout.de I guess. You have to navigate a bit – so if you need some help/translation, don’t hesitate to mail me, :-) .

  3. Sue Denyhm says:

For Australian listings you can try http://www.domain.com.au/ and http://www.realestate.com.au/

  4. Quark says:

For Scotland, there are regional places like

    Aberdeen Solicitors Property Centre: http://www.aspc.co.uk
    Edinburgh Solicitors Porperty Centre: http://www.espc.com/

Though you can just about search the whole of Scotland through the Glasgow
    property centre:

    http://www.gspc.co.uk

  5. Ian says:

Check out http://www.realtor.ca for Canadian listings. Just don’t expect anyone to be listing igloos.

  6. Joyful says:

ReMax has great international access. I once drooled an entire work day away looking at villas in Italy.

  7. Katonaik says:

This is a Hungarian one: http://realestatehungary.hu/belepes_en.php
This is the English version. Unfortunately most of the descriptions are in Hungarian only, but I think for example these pictures are funny even without the text: http://realestatehungary.hu/keresov2/hirdetesfeladas.php?action=bovebben&id=4243831&lang=en
    I hope I helped.

  8. CarmenT says:

Keywords like “Unique” and “artist” combined with the normal “home” and “sale” etc. will bring up some gems. Stuff like earthships, for example…

  9. Paul says:

Rightmove.com covers the UK and some overseas.

  10. Loleia says:

The biggest one in Spain is http://www.idealista.com
Most of the offers have pictures and I’ve spotted a few “jewels” there in the past, so you probably won’t have any problem finding something crazy ^_^

  11. cheri says:

    norealtyfees.com from Canada

  12. Marcos says:

You may get some chuckles from the following ones in Brazil:

http://www.zap.com.br (you should go to “imóveis” for real estate) and

    http://www.imovelweb.com.br

  13. scotchneat says:

In Canada, mls.ca is the multisite listings.

  14. Emma says:

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/?ChangeLocation=Y

Gumtree is like the Australian version of Craigslist, so far as I can tell. Not only can you find a truly special place to live, you can buy chairs!

  15. Fiona says:

There’s a couple of NZ ones, for that “unique” quality XD
    http://www.realestate.co.nz
and the real estate section of http://www.trademe.co nz
I might have to go visit the french ones too ^^

  16. nerd says:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk for listings in Britain (and a few internationally, I believe) there should be enough properties to look at on there to last you a loooong time

  17. ooartemisoo says:

I was going to say http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-me-property/index.htm (aka TradeMe) is very popular in New Zealand. You can also try the individual real estate sites (Barfoot and Thompson, Harcourts, Baileys). Baileys (www.baileyproperties.com) is interesting as they have some from Fiji as well.

For Madagascan realty you could always try http://mg.anuncioo.com/immobilier (the Madagascan version of TradeMe) although the whole site is in French. Google translate can solve most of those problems for you, though.

  18. Arwen Lune says:

http://www.funda.nl/koop/ is the largest propery site of the Netherlands

  19. The big ones in France for normal French people are http://www.seloger.com/ and http://www.pap.fr/. Pap.fr will be a goldmine for you because it is by-owner! Other national agencies include FNAIM, Foncia, Century 21, and La foret, and yes even these so-called professionals all offer sensationally badly-chosen photographs. Happy hunting!

  20. 773 says:

Yeah, Rightmove has the market in the UK. It’s a good aggregator for all the major estate agents. http://www.rightmove.co.uk

  21. InOregon says:

More English-language realty listings in Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Indonesia, PNG, and other far south east:

    LJ Hooker International

    http://www.ljhooker.com/index.php

  22. birdie says:

I know a couple in Ireland:

    daft.ie

    http://www.padraigsmith.com/v1/

Much hilarity to be found in the first because it covers all of Ireland.

  23. Kate says:

I have nothing constructive to add. Just wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE this site and I cannot wait for the international weirdness.

  24. B says:

Some popular ones in Finland (though that has “fin” in it) would be http://www.oikotie.fi/asunnot and http://www.etuovi.com/

    • B says:

It seems that Google Translate seems to be fairly OK if you also wish to understand what all the menus and the like are all about.

  25. Evergirl says:

I used http://www.avendrealouer.fr/ when I stayed in France and I remember coming across a number of pictures that I would never put in an add. Cleaning up before the picture is taken doesnt seem to be very common there.

In Sweden you would find real estate on http://www.hemnet.se, but the houses are usually quite styled before they are put up there.

    Looking forward to your finds.

  26. Solvi says:

http://www.hemnet.se for Swedish properties. Since I’m Norwegian I think you should some Swedish ones now. It’s really, really fun to make fun of the Swedes ;-)

  27. marte says:

http://www.funda.nl/koop/ is the main dutch site for real estate (koop means ‘buy’)

  28. daki says:

Some sites from Estonia: http://www.kv.ee, http://koduleidja.ee, http://www.kinnisvaraturg.ee. Hope you’ll find those useful, even though they’re in Estonian.

Good luck, I also love this site!

  29. Macos says:

For french listings, you have http://www.fnaim.fr/ (you can find an english version) it’s quite serious.

    A few others : – http://www.orpi.com/
    http://www.laforet.com
    http://www.seloger.com/

Maybe you could find some really nice things here, but it’s not a real estate website, but a free an non-professionnal listing.
    http://www.leboncoin.fr/li?q=&ca=1_s&th=1&c=9&w=3&st=s&ps=&pe=&sqs=&sqe=&ros=&roe=&zz=ex%3A75001

If you need any translation… let me know.

  30. Corine says:

http://www.funda.nl for the Dutch market, although I’ve never found anything funny in there.

  31. Kevin Lyda says:

http://daft.ie/ is the main site in Ireland. And there’s lots of, um, original dwellings over here.

  32. Clare says:

Another NZ one is http://www.nz.open2view.com/ but yeah trademe is good. Oh and http://www.tommys.co.nz/ might have somethings too!

  33. Matt says:

http://www.globrix.com has nigh-on all of the estate agents in the UK. That’s my top tip.

  34. Michiel says:

Funda.nl is the biggest in the NL

    http://www.funda.nl/koop/bladeren/

  35. jackie31337 says:

I could have sworn http://www.etuovi.com and http://www.oikotie.fi were also available in English, but I can’t seem to find the language selection now. Those are the main sites I use for house hunting in Finland.

  36. MrsBall says:

Here’s a couple of UK sites. No registration necessary to see pics:

    http://www.your-move.co.uk/

    http://www.zoopla.co.uk/#pf

  37. Jebberish says:

In the netherlands is http://www.funda.nl/koop/ the biggest one. Click on ‘koopwoningen’ for real estate. You could find things like this one on it.. http://www.funda.nl/koop/alphen-aan-den-rijn/huis-74940399-barnsteenstraat-67/fotos/#foto-12

  38. Raphael says:

In France, there is one very know listing site :
    http://www.pap.fr/

There is an english version here :
    http://www.pap.fr/?lang=en

  39. Jessie says:

http://myhome.ie or http://daft.ie are the sites to visit for Irish listings.

(Although admittedly most of the comedy comes from what the houses were ‘worth’ three years ago vs. what they’re going for now… har har har har….. We’re ALL laughing over here.)

  40. rotary washing line says:

You could try http://www.zoopla.co.uk/ for huge numbers of UK sales/rentals.

  41. Anibal says:

There are lots in Buenos Aires, you can check the following (knowing spanish is a plus):

    http://www.enbuenosaires.com
    http://www.argenprop.com

I challenge you to find something truly horrifying there. The real terrible houses here are not sold over the internet, usually.

Very basic listing spanish for argentina listings:
    Buscar = Search
    Casa = House
    U$S = U$S
    Venta = Sale
    Alquiler = Rent
    Dormitorio = Room
    Baño = Bathroom
    Cocina = Kitchen

If I accidentally found some really lovely listings sites in the country I’ll let you know.

  42. PoodleGroomer says:

You may want to check for work permits. There is a Vogon demolition contract for the Earth for an intergalactic express lane.

  43. mopo says:

Oh dear, I’m concerned for your welfare. We may all have to chip in so that you’ll be able to have a salary whilst you search the world for us!

  44. Kate says:

Also, remember the weird and wonderful world of ebay property listings – with the home-taken photos, sure to be some gems on there.

  45. I was just about to suggest the same as Liz – they are the two main Aussie sites. There’s also http://homehound.com.au but don’t think it’s anywhere near as good.

  46. Kate says:

Try http://www.rightmove.co.uk (if someone hasn’t already suggested it!)

  47. Helen says:

Another UK one: http://www.nestoria.co.uk/ Includes lets as well. And if you click on “other countries” you’ll find Germany, Spain and Italy.

  48. Mad_Hatteress says:

realestate.com.au is fantastic. Hilarity ensues, especially if you view some listings by lesser known companies.

  49. chicky82 says:

    realtor.ca has Canadian listings :)

  50. Citric says:

http://www.realtor.ca seems pretty good in Canada, though the pictures aren’t huge.

  51. Trish says:

in Scotland http://remax-scotland.com/ has a whole load of houses that aren’t available on the fabulous http://www.rightmove.co.uk/

  52. Mike says:

Swedish real estate website: http://www.booli.se, especially http://www.booli.se/inspiration. Meets all the requirements, only in swedish though.

  53. Leslie says:

This one for the Dominican Republic meets the requirements. Supposedly the site is also available in English, but I can’t get it to load.

    http://www.supercasas.com/reg/do/home.aspx

  54. Berry125 says:

We have this one in Brazil:

    http://www.zap.com.br/imoveis/busca-de-imoveis-simples.aspx

These basic words may help the search:

    - Casa: house
    - Apartamento: apartment
    - Comprar: buy
    - Alugar: rent
    - Imóveis: real estate
    - Buscar: search

Hopefully you’ll find some real gems :-)

  55. Oswald says:

    http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/
Not only islands but also castles etc.

  56. Oswald says:

    More german castles at:
    http://www.schloss-burg-verkauf.de/
The listings for sale are under “Immobilienangebote”

  57. Gingerpantz says:

Here’s Ireland’s main real estate site:

    http://www.daft.ie

  58. Missni says:

If you’re interested in Dutch houses, try http://www.funda.nl

  59. Bebette says:

Here you go, 34 countries in one searchable spot: http://www.relohomesearch.com (Click through for links to individual companies).

With just one try, I got this lovely greenie in Puerto Rico: http://www.tdshomes.com/FSDetail.asp?REForSaleAdID=536026

And this one in Greece (check out this kitchen!) and from the description, “…at the 1st floor, where the entrance is from the side street, a small yard with outside toilet…” Yeah, outside toilet! No photo of that, though.

  60. msondo says:

idealista.com is awesome for spain, lots of gems especially if you search for really expensive or really cheap homes in strange areas.

  61. xanderley says:

Hi, this is the most popular site in Canberra, Australia.

    http://www.allhomes.com.au

  62. Coiso says:

    This one in Belgium:
http://www.immoweb.be/en/ (some descriptions will not have English translations)

    And this one in Portugal:
    http://casa.sapo.pt/en/

  63. Esiotrot says:

http://www.allhomes.com.au which is particularly funny if you know Canberra and can discern the dodgy neighbourhoods from the respectable ones.

  64. Andi says:

Scotland’s biggest homes site can be found at http://www.s1homes.com Lots of search options on there!

  65. lgi says:

You can use the following property search engine, y used it and it was really useful
    http://www.lagraninmobiliaria.com/
    Good luck!
