Lovely Listing

Two-airship garage

What am I doing wrong? Why do I live with popcorn ceilings and Formica counters when I could have a glorious copper tank for filtered water, and some kind of binnacle, and, and, I don’t know, a frikking toaster made out of mahogany and a toilet seat made out of leather or whatever it is these steampunk people are up to? I would move in, but I go nowhere without my Roomba and I think adding 15 pounds of copper to it (so it didn’t feel insecure) would bring it to a halt. Ah well. Besides, I’m a die-hard Jack and Stephen fan; I’ll hold out until I can have my kitchen remodeled in the sailpunk style.

Loveliest  comment, by Stuart: It’s official: I am so going to put on jodhpurs, a leather duster and goggles and tell the people who currently live there that I like how they’ve taken care of the place but I really must get back to work and would they kindly move on, thank you very much.

Remember that game Myst? This reminds me of that.

  2. MsFledermaus says:

    *gasp*

It’s so beautiful!! I think this is one of the best ones yet–even better than the Unicorn room!

  3. Ann says:

The house is pretty spectacular as is the collection but who the heck has to spend every minute of every day keeping it clean? Now that’s impressive.

  4. Kae says:

My entire family would think I was barking mad, but I want this. Want it!

  5. Melinda says:

That is one evil-looking stove. It looks like it wants to leap off the computer screen and eat people. But somehow, I still think it’s pretty awesome.

  6. Comfy Cushion says:

What would have been more impressive would have been a full sized model of H.G. Wells’ time machine rather than the scale model.

  7. Example says:

Yeah, I kinda want this. This is in a whole different league than having creepy dolls in the listing photo. This actually looks extremely awesome and the outside of the house is so pretty. Want.

  8. TacoMagic says:

It’s fun to charter an accountant,
    And sail the wide accountantcy…

  9. Texchanchan says:

The steampunk house! Too cool. I love the style (but not kitschy “Victorian”).

  10. lizstaley says:

    I admit, I want to live here… It’s BEAUTIFUL.

  11. SM says:

The “frikking toaster made out of mahogany” looks like it might be a Magic Lantern, the precurser to the motion picture projector.

I don’t know how I’ve made it this far in life without a binnacle in my living room.

  12. BikerGeek says:

    OMG that’s awesome.

  13. Nana says:

But, but, surely the house doesn’t come furnished??

  14. spotty says:

This is indeed impressive, but I’ll hold out for the sailpunk, too. Aubrey / Maturin FTW!

  15. Kasheri says:

This is so full of win it is just dizzying. How can the sellers bear to part with what must have been a huge labor of…love?…madness?…obsession?
    All of the above.

  16. Amy says:

I love this! Hats off to the homeowners/designers…it’s great to see someone take a passion for something and showcase it with taste.

  17. adelwyn says:

I love finding fellow Jack and Stephen fans in random places. A glass of wine with you!
Maybe Killick can move in to this place to keep the brass shiny!

  18. Elk says:

STEAMPUNK HOUSE…FTW!!! I love everything about this house.. =)

  19. adelwyn says:

…and btw, a sailpunk house is only going to work if you have a crew of sailors on permanent shore-leave as live-in servants to scrub the floors every morning, polish the brass guns every week, paint the house every few months, and level the stone floors every year.
You’d have your own cricket team, though!

I <3 this home/museum. I'm not sure I'd want to live there, but you can't argue with the awesome attention to detail. They have a pretty fascinating blog here http://www.modvic.com/Steampunk.aspx

Binnacle is my vocabulary word of the day. I confess I had to go look it up.

Sara, I suspect you would enjoy the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. The first book is called “His Majesty’s Dragon.”

    • Sara says:

Intriguing. I normally avoid dragons, but I’ll check that out.

      • Sara says:

Avoid dragons in books, that is. I don’t have to take any precautions to avoid them in real life.

        • Vivian says:

Temeraire may just make you like dragons. :-) The books are extremely well written, sweet, suspenseful, sometimes wickedly funny, and capture the naval/military/social culture of the early 1800′s very well. The premise is that dragons (intelligent and able to speak) have been domesticated by the warring powers of nineteenth-century Europe and formed into Aerial Corps in support of infantry and navy. There is a lot of real-life history of the Napoleonic Wars worked in to the fiction (although she takes liberties with it too, of course).

          • erin says:

altho i havent read these books, i am familiar with the story. someone has taken the story and written a very well done fanfiction AU story series as a crossover using the characters from both the book and the sci-fi tv show, Stargate Atlantis. now i will have a place to picture this story.
and if that doesnt make me a nerd, i dont know what will.

            • Vivian says:

Ok that’s just freaky. I’m a major Stargate Atlantis fan, but… did I get this right? they crossed it with Temeraire?

              *brain explodes*

Ditto Adelwyn! WAAAAANT. And do you know how much that stove is worth??

    • LMA says:

Mayhaps, good gentleman, I may accompany you on said expedition? I shall commence at once to hand manufacture the laid arabaca fibre paper and walnut ink upon which I shall draft our singularly authentic deed claiming ownership of said property!

      • Stuart says:

Verily, do not forget to post-date said deed.

        • LMA says:

Most assuredly. April 7, 1854, I believe. ‘Twas a good year (or at least it will be once we are happily ensconced in our oak, mahogany, brass, granite and leather appointed mansion. I do hope the property comes with a coal mine however; we’re going to need quite a bit of steam.

  25. mary says:

Forget the house. I just want to go to their yard sale when they move out!

  26. Janet says:

wow – this is sweet – I seriously want the stove and the copper water thingy

  27. Helen says:

Oh this is just fantastic! When can I move in?

  28. Sari Everna says:

The first picture-okay, but just an old stove.
Second picture-Want! Have no idea what it is but I must have!
    Third picture-As the second!

Also did anyone notice the table in the background of the last picture? I think it’s one of those awesome compasses! Excuse me while I imagine living here and experience pure joy.

  29. Quark says:

Awesome! Especially the PC with full surround sound redecorated as a steampunk electric organ. Linux of course.

  30. ACH says:

What is that next to the stove? Looks like a tank or perhaps a “fertility icon” if you get my meaning.

    Roidy

  31. Jake Hildebrandt says:

Can I be really obnoxious and point out that this house is not for sale and this is, thusly, not technically a listing?

  32. Emily Michelle says:

    WANT.

  33. ann says:

Just a guess: the tall copper thingy with the pedastaled bowl next to the stove? the world’s coolest doggie water bowl, maybe?

    oh yeah, and: WANT!!!!11!!!

  34. kitler says:

Caractacus Potts has nothing on this place.

  35. Esz says:

That is the most awesome house EVER. So frikkin COOL. Want
