Apparently it’s for ice fishing, which answers my first question about why it appeared to be on a sheet of ice, and the more I look at it the more I think the theme is “monsters under the bed,” which answers my second question about why there’s a giant bed on top. But nothing answers my third question, which is “What do monsters under the bed have to do with ice fishing?”
Well, this ice shanty was for an art festival that is based on ice fishing. The link has a good explanation and lots of info on this here shanty.
Emily, I suppose that would depend on what sort of fish you’re after. If you’ve ever watched Jeremy Wade’s “River Monsters” on Animal Planet you’ll be familiar with why I may never swim in fresh water again, other than swimming pools.
Don’t believe me? Check out the website: http://animal.discovery.com/tv/river-monsters/.
The Giant Snakehead is especially nasty, though the Goliath Tigerfish is probably the scariest looking. Luckily (for me, anyway), it lives in Africa. But the aggressive Giant Snakehead, native to Aisa, has unfortunately been let loose in U.S. waterways and is now found from Maine to Arkansas.
I think I’ll just move my artsy shack entry down to the beach… right next to the pool.
quite the well done ice shack! the fanciest one I see here just has an Acadian flag painted on it.
