All the Comforts of Jail

Funny Real Estate - All the Comforts of Jail

Well, this is an intriguing listing. Are these cube-houses having a singsong as they tromp through the forest? Fortunately I speak fluent Japanese and can translate the website for you.

When the singing sink starts to bother you, the corkscrew slide lets you escape to a quieter space under the cube.

NFSWednesday: Just a Minute, Please, I’m in the Bath

Mar. 30, 2011

Today is Wednesday which means sorry, this house is Not For Sale (as far as I know, but what the hell, make them an offer and see what happens), so you will not be able to buy this “Skin TV (Triangle Value),” as the architect calls it. Which is sad, because just think how much simpler your life would be if your bathtub was in a clear glass cubicle in front of your window. Friends and/or missionaries popping by could just peek in and see if you were in the bath before ringing the doorbell, thus avoiding any awkward bathrobe-at-the-front-door moments.

The Japanese Take Everything to the Extreme

Nov. 16, 2010

By Not Sara, Sorry

funny real estate - The Japanese Take Everything to the Extreme

OMG, so funny: Just the other day I was like, “Y’know what would be awesome? A teeny tiny Japanese tea house that stands precariously perched upon the trunks of two timbers erected on a plot of family land in Chino, Nagano Prefecture!” SOMEONE’S a mind-reader!

NFSWednesday: Really Really Really Not For Sale

Nov. 10, 2010

Back when I lived in Queens, I would sometimes say that I lived in walking distance of LaGuardia Airport. While this was technically true — 1.7 miles, according to Google Maps — I never actually did it. I was close enough, and flight-pathy enough, that I’d have to turn up the TV when planes passed by, and I could see the windows of the planes as they flew over my apartment.

But I will no longer consider myself having lived “close ” to an airport, now that I’ve seen this. What is this odd blob, you ask? Why, it’s a farm! In the middle of Japan’s Narita International Airport, of course.

As far as my scattershot pokes around the Internet shows me, the farmers living on that particular plot of land refused to sell when the airport was being built. I think that the farm still exists, but I don’t understand how they get to and from it. Clearly my Cheezburger overlords need to send me there for research.

I first was told about this by ard. More here, here, here, here, here a plane, there a plane, everywhere a plane plane…

NFSWednesday: To the Tree! To the Tree! Up the Tree!

Sep. 22, 2010

From now on I am going to live my life in whatever manner will most certainly ensure that I have a treehouse like this some day.

Found by me (warning: trippy ahhhh-bloop-bloop-aaahhh music). Sorry, but this is Wednesday and the treehouse is Not For Sale.

NFSWednesday-ish: The People Under the Stairs… Seem Friendly

Sep. 16, 2010

funny real estate - The People Under the Stairs... Seem Friendly

Whoops, sorry! I had done yesterday’s post a few days ahead of time, as I had some stuff to do, and I completely missed that it would be Wednesday. So here, all confused-like, is Thursday’s Not For Sale Wednesday post.

Made entirely of stairs with more stairs and then a layer of stairs, this beautiful Japanese house has just one drawback: every day you can expect five to ten people trying to have their Rocky moments in your yard.

Other than that — and the whole “stairs” thing — it’s perfect. Just throw some raw eggs at the would-be Stallones and they’ll scoot away.

Loveliest comment, by JMixx:

Keiko, an ecology teacher,
Loved the “stair” house for all of its features
But she looked out the glass
And was looking at @$$
And realized she lived under the bleachers!

Like a Smurf Mushroom Village!

What’s that, you say? You’re planning on dying your skin blue, ripping off your shirt (if male), putting on a big squishy hat, and going on tour with those cool people you met at Bonnaroo settling your own Smurf  village? Or smurfing your own… no, I’ll spare you that joke. Anyway. Here you go! A company in Japan (surprise!) will sell you your very own dome!

Maybe you’re worried you can’t afford it, but look at it this way: with the savings you’ll make on your medical bills now that you live in a house that “solves asthma, rhinitis and other symptoms of ‘sick-house syndrome’ and ‘chemical sensitivity syndrome’, and catalyzes to suppress active oxygen which causes sickness or aging,” you can easily afford it. And if you can’t buy it all at once, you can buy it a piece at a time.
